welding spider gears

hey what do you guy think about welding spider gears for a locker for daily driving and mudding my truck is a 1998 f150 8.8" rear end 2wd and do you have any tips on it

I would say DONT weld it if its touching pavement.

i wouldnt. its gonna make it a PITA to drive on the street, and impossible to drive in the snow. a limited slip would be better. or a lunchbox locker.

how loud are they going down the highway when you have to chenge lanes and such

not at all. they dont slip at all when changing lanes. if they do, it would only be like 1 click, and you wouldn't hear it.

How long would something like that last? I could see the teeth wearing down after a while.

they last a long time. the teeth are angled, so its an easy engagement.

because its still a locker under power, so if its wet, you could lose traction easier.

Don't weld the spider gears. you will hate it. And you might break axles turning on pavement if you get enough traction.

Don't do it!! If you break anything, you'll trash the ring and pinion too making for an even more expensive repair. IMO its dangerous too.
