hey guys. a lot of yall have seen my truck on here well i was polishing my wheels yesterdAY and i noticed some spots that look like water spots that wont come off and some rusty spots.... i havnt eve had my wheels a year yet.... my cleaning process goes like the wash truck and wheels with soap and water dry wheels and truck spray wheel cleaner on wash off dry wheels and then oce a month i polish my wheels with mothers polish.... i do not see how this is happening. its happening more in the holes in the wheels than on the outer but im seeing it more on the out now... any one know how to fix this? would my warranty on the wheels cover this??? im getting new wheels when i go to 37s but thats gonna be a year or two and right now i have the best looking ford in town especially in this year bracket and i wana keep it that way. the only reason i went with polished instead of a chrome steel wheel is because chrome chips and damages easier but my friend has chrome wheels and his truck sees the mud holes on a regular basis and his yet to have a scratch or chip and his wheels are oolllllllllllldddd like where put on a year after the truck was bought and its a 1999.... any help?? i was thinking maybe they have a slight acid that you can put on them to make them look new again but it was just a thought

 

polished wheels suck in my opinion...i have the DC1's and they've done the same thing...i dont think they come factory with clear coat so it causes this to happen....if i ever get them clean im putting on clear coat.....subscribing cuz i wanna see if anyones got a "magic potion" to take this stuff off

 

I've never seen oxidization or water spots that mothers couldnt take out. Use a high speed polishing abrasive. Sometimes doing it by hand just doesnt work the material enough. The mothers power ball does wonders. There shouldnt be any "rusty" spots. I have polished and restored some nasty aluminum with just mothers and a pad.

 

If you haven't tried it yet. Get the mothers mini power ball. I used it on the old rims on my truck and it worked wonders. Took some time and I think 2-3 batteries on my 18v drill to get one wheel clean> neglected from previous owner.

Went from a dull grey to a shiny chrome finish.

If you have polished aluminum try the mothers polish if that isn't doing the trick Flitz has a bit more grit to cut in a bit more. Careful though.

 

bar keepers friend. abervintageman got me onto it, does an awesome job on polished wheels, cleaned up all the black pitting instantly on my old truck that i couldn't get off for the life of me with anything i had tried. it's just a powder, put it on a damp rag and pretty much wipe the crud off

 

alright guys i have the normal power ball that i used yesterday for the first time its sirts big and my drill didnt have enough charge so i wasnt polishing at a high speed. ill try it again this friday or saturday. i really hope it comes off

I normally polished my wheels ever 5K when I rotate them, but the time before last I was to busy to polish them with my power ball. I got this stuff to try and it polished my wheels with 10K on them in 1/3 of the time it normally takes me to use a power ball. It worked pretty well for me, seems to be holding shine quite well too.

I used the Mothers Powerball on my boat trailer wheels and it worked great. Someone here mentioned Bar Keepers Friend. I use that stuff all the time on aluminum boat parts and it works great for cutting seriously dirty pieces before polishing.

 

im probably gonna try the bar keepers friend then power ball with mothers and spend some time doing it instead of just blowing by the wheels... i usually use black magic no scrub wheel cleaner but idk whats on my wheels that it wont get it off

 

Try to keep cleaners and detergents off the aluminum. If you do use them to clean the tire, immediately rinse the wheels. I have found that they speed the process of oxidation and can make cleaning harder. The power ball is the poop, works wonders.

 

I just did mine today. Washed with soap and water, then cleaned them with an aluminum deoxidizer. Then I used the meguiars dyna-cone with my corded drill and used mothers mag and aluminum polish. Now they look almost brand new and have a chrome like finish again.

 

Yea mine didn't look that greater either and they get spots real quick...Powerball and Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish brought them right back, have to do it every month though

 

Try prepping your wheels with some of this. Just saturate a rag with it, wipe over the wheels, and then spray them off. Then you can go about polishing the wheels.
