Dot 3 synthetic
Has Dot 3 brake fluid always been synthetic? If not can I add it to my reservoir without a problem?

Yes, put DOT 3 in your system. Whether it be synthetic or not (I forget but think it is), DOT 3 is DOT 3 so you'll be good.
