personally i think they look cheap but, ive seen studies that they dont do much if they help its just because you lose the weight of the tailgate, and that could help over a tank of gas.

your truck is designed for there to be a negative air pocket in the bed where air just swirls in the bed and the oncoming air just rides right over the air swirling in the bed. just my .02

Just get a tire gate, and put the spare back there. Gets rid of the tail gate, and looks cooler.

Actually on the episode of mythbusters the truck with the tailgate up got better fuel mileage than the truck that had the tailgate down.

This crappy mod is not going to get you any fuel mileage gains.

Right. Maybe losing the weight would equal out but no gain.

Can't hurt, but ya, the tailgate up got better mileage. I've never liked or understood the nets, keep the tailgate, forget the net, and get a cover is my opinion.

Myth Busters did a comparison of tailgate up, or tailgate down. The truck with the tailgate up got better mileage because the design for wind flow.

I too don't really care for the net look, but that's just me

Nets? Weren't those the thing to have in the 80's? When I think of a tailgate net, I think of a lifted truck with a roll bar\KC lights mounted up top... and 15" wheels with 38" tires.
