replacing fuel pump

I searched but didn't find a thread on this.
Is there a detailed write up on doing this? If not, how much room do I have when dropping the tank to not put stress on any hoses or wires attached?

unhook the wires, unhook the fuel lines, take off the filler and vent hose. If you want to make it easier yet remove the driveshaft as well. i always remove the drive shaft, just makes it easier to get around.

Thanks. I have to drop the tank to get at all those things. How much can I drop it without breaking anything?

If you have help, it can be easier to lift the bed.

no help to lift bed. besides, I found that one of my tank straps is completely rotted through. Truck has started fine several times today. Could it just be as simple as a corroded electrical connection at the tank?

It could be a lot more things than just the fuel pump if the starting is intermittent. As far as having room to drop it slowly lower it down until you have room to get in there.

Yea, that's what you do. PLUS, have a can of WD40 handy. Soak the vents/grommets before trying to remove, - hoses as well. That will assist and keep them from breaking.

Removing the bed is just ridicules IMO, -you have to try it once to see what I'm referring to lol. Makes no sense at all with these trucks. It's allot slower, you'll most likely break body bolts in the process and or strip the carriage bolt locks.
