Frozen Tailgate Hinge

Hinge rusted off of the factory tailgate, so i went and pulled a new tailgate. Problem is the hinge and plastic bushing are frozen to the truck. Tried WD40, rust reducer, prybars and hammers and still cant get it off. Any suggestions besides cutting it off?

Are you trying to remove the tail gate from the truck, or the bracket attached to the bed? Because the tail gate just lifts off. The bracket is another story, 2 torx bolts at each side. If the bolts are the issue then get some new ones and drill out the old, then clean the threads with a tap.

I have the tailgate off already, the round hinge that normally slips on the drivers side rusted off the tailgate and now is rusted to the truck. I need the bracket to stay on the truck so i can just install the new tailgate.

If you have a new bushing then take a dremel tool, or something like it, and cut off the tailgate part that is stuck on. You might be able to drill several holes in line and split it that way also, or maybe a 2 jaw puller. IDK, maybe I'm not understanding the issue right.

Does the cup move if you grab it with channel locks or something? Or is it completely frozen.

You have to excuse my ignorance, I'm in Calif-we don't have rust!

Tried that and its completely frozen on there, we have very little rust here in Tennessee ourselves but im up to 2 busted nuckles and I'm about out of explatives. Time to cut or chisel it off im thinkin.

A sawz all will work wonders here. Cut it flush, grind down all the roughness until its smooth and install new.

Maybe some heat, that will melt the bushing but you might be able to get it that way.

I feel your pain, perhaps call an ex-girlfriend/wife then you will at least be armed with more cuss words.

Small cut with a dremel and one swift hit and off it came, the plastic had so much build up it was swollen
