4x4 not disengaged completely??
4x4 not disengaged completely??
I have the dash switch 4x4 and when i switch it back to 2H it seems to come out of 4x4, but the left front wheel still hums like it is in.. Loudly! is this a bearing? please any help would be great..
Well you would get a lot more help with your vehicle information. This includes but is not limited to year, make, model, 4x4/2x4, esof/floor shift, transmission, extended cab/reg cab.
Now as for your question, your problem is most likely either a wheel bearing or more likely an iwe. Now if your vehicle is equipped with iwe there is a bunch of great threads on here about diagnosis and repair just search integrated wheel end or iwe.
It very well could be a bearing as well. Does the noise change when switching lanes on the highway, or doing the drunken weave down the road? If it does then it is most likely a wheel bearing. If the noise does change then you should get the truck up in the air and listen to both bearing while spinning the tire the sound should give it away.

yeah i posted the thread in a hurry sry bout that..its a 2000 F150 4x4 off road extended cab with the 4x4 switch on the dash.. and yes the noise changes with movement, whenever im taking a long slow right turn like on the highway it almost totally stops..
Well if it doesn't have an iwe what is the device used to unlock the wheels from turning the front dif? I thought even the earlier ones where equipped with some sort of iwe what else would those vacuum lines be going to?
Either way it sounds like a bearing very easy to do. There are a few videos on youtube to help you. If you are going to do one might as well do them both. Do not go with the 80 dollar part store specials, order some nationals or timnkens off of rockauto.
