Thanks for the response.
Those are the ones, I got. (from Miami, right?) I had issues with three of them right away and put in the factory ones that tested OK and everything was fine. I didn't realize then that they were lifetime guaranteed.

I'm thinking that if I don't have capacitors then maybe excess energy is affecting the Power Control Module.

Can anyone tell me if those pictures should show the capacitors?

The two capacitors (one on each bank of COPS) are used to reduce RFI from the firing of the coils.

They are small blocks mounted to the top of the heads towards the front of the engine. They are not visible in either of your photos.

The engine will work just fine whether they are there or not. Should one of them short, it will blow fuse F30(?) and the engine will not run.

Thank you for your reply.
I think I know what you are referring to now. Much appreciated!

I had read somewhere here that if they started to fail (not short) that the RFI from the coils could cause misfire problems like what I'm having. Plus I have a whining noise on AM radio and the antennae has a good ground to the fender.

Theft light blinks and engine misses

I am experiencing the same problem. Engine misses and difficulty while in idle.
The theft light blinks. But, only at high speed and intermittently, not a complete theft light blink. Also, check engine light will start blinking only to stop blinking after a few minutes.

Did you all settle on a solution?

nice thread jack, anyway Johnny340 isn't using common sense, as he already "knows" what is or what isn't the issue

you need to have your truck checked for codes, and then if there are none change your plugs and then the COPS

If I "knew" then I wouldn't be asking here. Why would everyone recommend lifetime waranteed cops that last one year?

So, yes I have NO codes.
Now change only the plugs again (after I put SP479s only a year ago).
And then change the COPs if that didn't work. Even though I had the COPs in my hands in the previous step?? Who wouldn't change them at the same time?
So if I really want it fixed I should go to the Ford dealer for COPs ($350-$540 or so) and everyone else here using ebay ones are changing them every year?

Common sense would tell me that spark plugs and COP changes shouldn't be an annual event and when I read other threads with the exact same symptoms and different solutions that maybe I should consider them too.

tarajerame - I'm going to assume that you are an alright guy for trying to help me in the first place and that at the time of your last post (2:39 in the morning) you'd had a few beer.
jlorenz - no I haven't fixed it yet. Good luck with your problem and good on you for using the search feature.

There are plenty of people who are using the Ebay cops that are working fine. The odds of them going bad are no higher than with any other cops - they are all made in China now.

Thumbs up Fixed

I thought I'd finalize this post for others searching the hundreds of posts about misfire because I didn't find another one solved that mentioned the Theft light blinking.

I changed the sparkplugs and COPs again after only 20,000KM on Global COPs and Motorcraft SP479 plugs. I really doubt it was the plugs with such little time on them so my guess is that the Global COPs are unreliable. (When I originally installed them, I had two fail within the first week and replaced them with two factory ones that tested OK.)

I bought these COPs on Ebay from eCarOnline:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
They claim to be "made in USA" which for all I know means that the rubber boot was stuck on in USA and the rest is from China. It does mention copper wire as opposed to aluminum which could be more reliable.

Either way, for now, my truck runs fantastic again and has the power and mileage that I expect with no misfire!

Just goes to prove it's a crapshoot, but when the Ebay cops (regardless of specific vendor) cost the same for a full set as one or two OEM's or other retail brands, they are well worth trying.

Johnny - dredging this one up... Thanks for the update. I have exactly the same experience. Just replaced COPs with Global from Ebay. Ran fine (even pulled my RV fine) for 2 months, and now one of them is starting to crap out.

Very often people defeat themselves by the way they think about things!
Has a lesson been learned, here?

Even factory coils don't last forever but are still the best or Ford would not use them.
They live a harsh life on top of the motor with all the heat so the best ones are the factory units.
Merry Christmas.

Since this thread was posted, you can now get Visteon DG508 cops on Ebay for about $190 a set. These are OEM.
