motorvac

Well i have some questions. I did a search and all i could really find was that it is supposed to help clean things. I guess what i am wondering is what exactly gets clean, should it be done before or after new plugs/ o2 sensors, and what is the difference between motorvac/ bg service? thanks for any info on this, once it gets properly warm i am going to fix my exhuast leaks/ replace my o2's and do a new set of plugs and i was planning on cleaning my tb and then i heard about this.

It's like an upper GI to us humans. I get the MotorVac every 3 years or so. Truck has 279,000, gets 16 mpg empty/no trailer (city and hw) and doesn't use a drop of oil between changes, even when pulling it's own weight.

so basically it just cleans everything and gets it back to like new? if i were to have this done, would it still be a good idea to clean the throttlebody and everything anyway?

A Motorvac and a BG job is essentially the same thing. Most shops around here use BG because they are based in Wichita. It's supposed to clean out the entire intake tract starting with the throttle body all the way into the combustion chambers. I'd do it before a plug and/or O2 change.

I do not know if it effectively cleans out the EGR ports in the throttle body.

Probably not. The EGR port plugging is solely a 4.6L problem and needs to be done by hand. 5.4L's do not have these ports. They have a large EGR chamber.

that is kinda what i was leaning towards, i mean there is only so much carb cleaner can do and that is normally with the assistance of a wire brush.

Carb cleaner will ruin your TPS,IAC,EGR and TB gasket. So don't use it. Also eats your rubber tubing connects.

Motorvac really dosen't do muvh for the upper part of your engine it hooks into your fuel system. We normally rec. that they are done before plugs.

Well, FORD recommends it, - they recommend it for the three valve only and as a plug TSB. It does allot for your internals. It won't work miracles, but if your keep up on it, you can keep it clean inside that way. Keeps the valves spotless for one, and the tops of the pistons.

The best time to do a Motorvac/BG is *before* a plug change - especially with the 3v.

I have read that now but the plugs have been changed already. Didn't know about motorvac. It's not going to mess up the new plugs if I do it now right?

It won't hurt them, but why don't you just wait till it's time for the next change? For now, just throw a bottle of Techron in the tank.
