Battery indicator Illuminated

Good morning,

For the last three days my battery indicator light has turned on as i accelerate onto the freeway. It lights when in passing gear up to 75mph then turns off when desired speed is reached. Thanks In advance and I hope you have a hell of a GOOD weekend.

Mine does the same thing too (2001 F-150 5.4 4x4). Always happens when the engine is at a higher RPM. Mine's been doing this for a few years now. Doesn't seem to affect anything. Anyone else experience this??

The symptoms you describe are of a belt slipping. When you accelerate the belt slips and the alternator cannot put out enough current to keep the light out. Check your belt and if it is OK the tensioner may be weak.

When mine did that, the alternator was on its way out. However, it definitely could be a slipping belt.

I agree, probably the alternator, - but could be...

Btw, - Always change the tensioner when changing the belt. Cheap insurance and recommended by belt manufacturers for good reason.

A few years, ya say ? Some of us would call that neglect.... or laziness

Well, I guess it could be called neglect, but for the last few years I have only put on a few thousand miles on it and keep on putting off the diagnosis/repair. If I drove it daily, it would probably be fixed by now. It's one of those things that keep on getting bumped down the "to-do" list when more important things come up, like repairs to my daily driver car for work

I also did install a Gatorback belt last year...1-2 shift squeel is gone, but Alt. light still comes on once in a while. Guess I will throw a new alternator at it when I get a chance...

Understood. not being a daily driver would make the difference! AND... priorities Rule
