Ouch... I completely rebuilt my Front diff with gears and a locker for that.. That was all new bearings, and even swapping in a A4wd Expedition right side Axle and housing..

Maybe a little heavy on the parts mark up but not bad on the labor

I had all the labor done. It cost $200 plus a case of beer. That included pulling out the Diff, Pressing bearings, disassembling the diff for the axle shaft and housing, and setting up the gears.... The labor wasnt bad but really stuck it to you on the parts..

It cost me about $200 (+) to get my 4WD fixed. The problem was minor apparently. I can't remember off hand, but they said there was some piece "binding" or not being fully exercised. Can't remember right now. The switch worked and it could be heard activating, so it wasn't that. I just tried to dig up my service ticket on this and can't seem to find it.

There has been many threads about non functional 4WD on this forum.

Rus- The A4WD Right axle is solid, instead of having a slip collar. It removes the need of having the front differential shift fork, and vacuum lines running to the front diff. Granted it does make a little mileage decrease as everything in the front diff is now rotating all the time, but it makes the entire front driveline a little stronger. Also having a locker upfront has a tendency to break the shift fork. With looks aside my truck see's its far share of off roading on the weeks, taking care of the property and getting back to our hunting camp. It also just makes the entire ESOF systme that much better in my opinion because, Now even if i have a solenoid failure, I still have 4wd..

Abbreviation for assembly.

I also think "Baron" might be bearing. $30 labor to press a bearing.

shift fork

Can a do-it-yourself accomplish a shift fork change or do you recommend a "professional"?
Thanks,

why did he have to rebuild the front end? usually what goes out on a 4x4 is the vacuum actuator.
