Herculiner Questions.

Okay I've searched and searched for a thread on it and the only kind I can find are herculiner in the bed of a truck.

I was thinking about doing my front bumper and rear bumper and my rocker panels with the herculiner.. And I plan to do EVERY part of the directions and prep steps.

Some people say its good in the bed and some people say its crap. Well wheres its going to be at on my truck it will receive none to minimum damage. I mean... My bumpers never hit anything and my side don't ether... Maybe the occasional stick in the road in the hunting woods... But other than that. Almost nothing hits them. Nothing will be there to push and pull on it, nether to scratch it.

So my questions are: 1. Will herculiner do fine with what I am going to do with it?
2. If it will do okay would 1 gallon be enough? Or should I get two gallons?

Thanks.

I know results vary depending on the prep work and the skill of the person applying the Herculiner. But I've seen far more crappy looking Herculiner jobs than good. I think you could use a "do it yourself" product, but I think there are a lot better choices then Herculiner for your purpose. I think a spray on product would give you a much better looking finish.

search for a product called raptor liner. It's like the herculiner but it is a spray on application. I have it, but can't comment on it yet as it is still sitting in the garage until i have the time to do it. Tptools sells the whole kit for $100.

We did my truck and only used a quart. I had a lot of rot and rust on my rockers and on my back doors on my extended cab. I actually had rust holes. We ground the whole truck from the door moldings down to the bottom to the bare metal. We then took low expansion foam for doors and windows and filled in the rust holes waited for it to dry and cut off excess and sanded flush. Then we taped off the top of the truck and sprayed the bottom from the moldings down with a paint gun with hurculiner with a lot bigger nozzle obviously(don't know what size my buddy is the painter) Truck turned out great looks like a 2 tone black no rust anymore and that stuff made crappy thin metal hard as a rock with 2 coats. I'll wash it and get some pics when it gets above freezing. Great fix for rust!!

Hmm, never heard of using expansion foam to fill in rust holes. Pretty nifty idea, But how well would it hold up to something hitting it or scraping against it?

I have it on my bumpers and rockers and it's held up great! I never ha any issues with it. I also had it on my last truck. I wouldn't use it for the bed, but it's great for these types of applications

I just did my roof rack with it (check the sig) It's good as long as you prep well, cover every surface and do a few coats...I did six or seven (overkill)

IF I decide to use herculiner on my bumpers, would I need to take my bumpers apart and paint the parts separately, or all together?
Im guessing separately would look better?
And, the herculiners not going to damage the plastic pieces, because of some sorta reaction with them will it?

I did just the metal on the front bumper and taped off the plastic, and did the rear bumper and took the plastic steps and did those separate. I'll post pics in a bit

If your bumper is chrome you will want to sand blast before applying the herculiner.

this is the most recent pic. the Ranchhand will be Herculined this summer when i can get it sandblasted. it was rough when i got it so i used Duplicolor spray on bedliner in the meantime. looks really good and has been a lot more durable than i expected. the truck also has had the wheels coated in the same stuff, L heads and 04-08 emblems since that pic was taken

Just sanding the chrome piece REAAAALLY good wouldn't be enough?

And Bansheeman, was your "metal" part on your bumpers chrome? And howd the rear bumpers plastic pieces react with the herculiner?
