This morning my truck did not start

When I tried to start this cold morning and everything worked except the theft light was flashing. I was using the same chip key I always use. It is the only chip key I have. I tried inserting the key upside down but still the theft light flashed. I know it won't start while the theft light is flashing. So I stopped trying to crank but tried several times to get the system to recognize my key. It did not.
I am hoping there is a 10 minute delay or something after I tried a few times that just locked the system. I was late for work so my wife drove me in her car. Now I hope it will work the next time I try. I don't want to have the truck towed to the dealer $$$$ any ideas??

well... I don't have a chip key but when the theft light is flashing at my truck (98) I just go and outside, close the door, insert the key (in the door) and unlock it, that disarm the theft light in my truck... you might want to try that... just an idea here...

This morning I fixed my truck. Guess with what? What else, duct tape. Yep two thin strips of duck tape. I found the problem after pulling the ignition out. There is a contact in the ring at about 7 o'clock position when looking into the ring. I found a small piece of broken plastic that must have been some kind of retainer for this contact. I used thin strips of duck tape about 3/8 inch wide wrapped around the outside of the ring to secure this contact. I was going to use a nylon tie but it was slipping of the piece I was trying to secure. The duck tape won't slip and holds the piece in place. I wrapped another strip of tape around for extra measure. Put it all back together and the theft light went right out and she fired up. Good to go. Cost $0.00, nice to be able to drive myself to work again.
