Efan Motor Smoking

**UPDATE*** I hooked the power and ground straight to the battery to check motor - it ran fine with no smoke. Too much power from relay?

Hey all,
Just noticed some smoke under the hood...smelled electrical. Looked at my efan motor and the smoke was coming from there. Saw intermittent sparking as well. The fan is from a 94 Mustang. Here is how it's wired.

I'm thinking two things: either too much power to the fan motor...or it's about to burn out.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

If the fan motor was smoking it is time for a new fan motor.

X2.

The test connection - straight to battery - provides the same power as the relay would - so time fer a run to the recyclers, sir.

These things are rated for several thousand hours - they do wear out.

Thanks guys - I tested the motor straight to the battery again (since it didn't smoke this way before), but this time it started smoking after a couple seconds of run time. Decided to go with a new motor this time around, rather than a junkyard treasure - only $60 new from the store! That new motor pulls cfm like nobody's business.
