Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but K&N's don't filter as well as dry paper filters and the filter oil has been known to foul the MAF.......

Well, mine is fixed...again...lol

This code was an egr related one. My mechanic called late last night and said that he was sorry, but he must have left off the vac hose to the egr when putting the intake back on.

I told him , no problem as I should have at least opened the hood to investigate. But in my defense, I was so pissed that the light came on 60 miles after spending $425 I figured I would just let him **** with it.

Now, back to the others problems.
Hang in there guys, we will get through this together.

LOL I wish mine was that easy!! I made an apponitment at the stealership for either thurs or fri. We may have bad weather comming in around STL so I would be off work. I did talk to a HS classmate of mine that works at the stealership by my work. He seems to think it is a loose/broken vac line that I'm missing.I'm just tired of my truck using a freaking ton of gas!! I had a half a tank this morn and when I came home from a 60 mile commute I had just over a quarter of a tank!! WTF!?

Well $398.56 later it is fixed.Turns out that the PCM needed to be "reflashed" and updated and the elbow at the back of the intake where the PCV valve hose goes was cracked. They also had to replace a broken bolt on the intake that was causing a vaccum leak. The MAF I just bought was bad as well luckily I had the recipt w/ me and they replaced it under warrenty. I hate that the "stealership" are the only ones w/ the "offical Ford diagnostic tool" to make sense of this crap! Plus the labor rates are higher than most other shops. I should have went to school to be a mechanic!!

How many times were you asked to check that????? That is the #1 cause of 171 and 174 codes.........

Anyone can buy the Ford diagnostic system if they have a spare 20 grand laying around.

Well I want to run my truck of a damn cliff!! Damn light came back on today!!Everyone including stealership says I don't have a damn vaccum or intake or somthing leaking somwhere to cause these friggin damn codes I KNOW somthing is wrong b/c when I accelerate you CAN HEAR SOMTHING THAT SOUNDS LIKE SUCKING AIR ON TOP OF THE ENGINE!! I've been to 3 frigging places and everybody swears up and down that nothing but the air going into the intake is causing the noise! I even replaced the air fliter w/ Motorcraft one.I wish an "act of god" would happen so my insurance would total this POS out so I could get a new truck!!!!

I AM TIRED OF WASTING GOOD HARD EARNED MONEY ON MY POS!!!!

My wife is gonna take it back to the damn STEALERSHIP on MON THEY BETTER FIX IT FOR FREE!!! I am going to raise hell and turn into Satan himself!!! I AM DONE W/ THIS ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Gee really? tell me somthing I don't know!!! Have you ever been pissed off to the breaking point where you just dont give a damn anymore? If this tool is so damned "special" then why in the hell it could not even sense a vac leak or an intake leak? you pay out the rear to get these things diagnosed and "fixed" and then a day later you are at the same friggin point you were before!? this was a stealership they are "supposed" to know this crap!! So I wasted money on stuff that DID NOT repeat DID NOT fix my problem!! How would you feel if you just got taken for $400 and it did not do a damn thing!

Damn man.
I read that and honestly I nearly pissed my pants laughing so freaking hard. Not at you or the truck, but at how you put your frustration into words. Reminds me...of me.

Except I would strap myself in the truck driving it off the cliff yelling MuThR F----- all the way down.

Seriously now,
Take that truck back immediately and dont erase the code. Raise total hell and tell them that didnt fix it and you paid them $400 for a FIX. You are not paying anymore and **** their labor rates. It was their mistake in the first place that they mis-diagnosed it.
Tell them that you will file a complaint with the BBB ( better business bureau )
if they dont fix it.

Show your *** and get some results.

Chill out!

I took mine into the dealer for a miss 3 years ago. Cost me $535 to get it fixed. I had to take it back twice more before they finally found the problem. NEITHER return visit cost me a dime. Give them a chance! Getting pissed off is only going to put them on the defensive and they will be a LOT less likely to work with you.

I apologize to anyone who was offended by my rant yesterday. It is just so FRUSTRATING that when you are at your wits end and you have no recourse but to take it to the dealer and then it is still not fixed. I am frustrated because these are the pepole who are supposed to know my Ford best. What got me upset is that the tech said that there was no vac or intake leaks and I know that that is wrong because I do hear air and a "sucking" type noise when I accelerate. At a crusing speed it is very faint but when there is small load on the engine you can definatly hear it sucking or leaking air somhow at the top of the engine. I did not hear it as much when I had my K&N filter in the air box but I do hear it more so now w/ the paper filter. I have been fighting w/ these codes for almost a month!! I just want my truck back to the way it used to run and drive when it was fun!! I did notice however I did pick up a few not a lot of MPG's though. Oh and somtimes my truck will surge at a stoplight but not every time. It is very few and far between.

My dealership doesnt do work on the weekends. So I have to wait yet again for a weekday

Any updates guys? Y'all have me scared now. My 171&174 codes came about a couple weeks ago. Thought I over oiled my K&N, so I cleaned the MAF and reset. Stayed gone for a few days. Then came back. Tried checking for vac leaks via brake cleaner. Couldn't really find anything. What places would you guys suggest I check / any tips on finding a vac leak? I had to replace my IAC around a year ago and reused to gasket (I know). Do you guys think that could be throwing it?

Well my light has stayed off for over a week. When I took it back to the stealership-well my wife did as I had to work. They found a couple of bad vaccum trees by the pass side of the motor. They were completly dry rotted and crumbled in the techs hand as he searched them down What I dont understand is when he smoke tested the truck the week before why did he not DISCOVER this the first time My guess is that he did not really even look at my truck and b/c the miles on it and they wanted to sell me a new truck which I did not want.

I'm having the exact same problem. It will go away for a day or two or a week or two. It can be between 15 and 200 miles between light. Cleaning my maf helped but it still comes back. I'm guessing its time to check for vacuum leaks?
