CV Axle?

When I drive my truck and when I hit about 37 to 40 my truck starts to jump and make a womp womp sound and its only on the driver side of the truck. I know its not the hubs because I just replaced them on both sides of the truck.... I think its the CV Axle but I could be wrong... What Y'all think?

Maybe but a CV should do it all the time, does it do it when turning, does it vibrate?? Sounds like a tire problem...

More than likely a cv axle. Get it up in the air, spin the tire in both locked turned positions and check for any binding/popping. Check the tie rod ends, pitman arm, ball joints and things like that while under there. Bushings should be nice and tight. Bad lower or upper ball joints can pop when turning at low speeds, and can cause camber issues at other certain speeds which may make your tires start to hum. Just because the tires are a year old doesnt mean they can't be out of balance either. Have them checked also. When was your last alignment?

Never experience that one, it doesn't sound good. Make sure those CVC boots aren't leaking. That "womp womp womp" sounds to me like a tire, - belts are broken. Alignment maybe, more so the "castor" part of that.

Give your front end a good visual from the front, -stand back and eyeball the toe. These trucks like to thro out the toe on the passenger side, - which effects the drivers side. The Castor can be eyeballed somewhat from standing back and judging position of the tire inside the wheel well. It should be centered. These front ends aren't very stable, with over-sized tires or when the T-bars are cranked, you can thro them out hitting a pothole. Fairly easily.

i never cranked the T-bars but i will check it.. i been thinking its the CV Axle and my dad thinks soo too.. i might to just take it to the family mechanic and see what he says.. but when i did the ball joints the CV popped out on the passenger side and they never put the boot on right so i think all the gear oil came out...

The boots won't leak fluid,- (that was easy to misunderstand). Well, okay, grease maybe, since water may eventually wash the grease from.

So yea, those boots keep grease on the CV joints and protect them from dirt and rocks that could cause damage. The boots shouldn't be that much, heck the shafts brand new,- after core charge are only $65-70 each. if there making noise by chance, than they probably need to be replaced. That's $140 for both shafts and the time it takes you to install.

Getting new boots. You use to be able to get them cheap from Car-parts.com, but Rock Auto should have them.

You have to take it apart anyway to replace.

So, to have it done, I bet it will cost around $250 a side, just in labor. That's whether you just replace the boots or both shafts as well. Labor cost should be the same.

All in all, not cheap having it done.
