4x4 is tricky! not workin

4x4 is tricky! not workin

Last night i cranked up my truck and i left it in 4x4 put it in drive and all wheels started spinnin then a loud clunk!So now my 4x4 isnt working well i messed around with it last night a good 10min the 4x4 light is on and it finally went in 4x4 well i parked it in the garage last night to get all the snow off the truck.This morning pulled out of the garage and put 4x4 on the light comes on but my 4x4 isnt working.I have a 2003 f150 so what do i need to look at

Probably the hub actuator is freezing up. Had the problem myself a few times.

yea all four wheels were spinnin and i had throttle on it then the 4x4 caught and i heard a loud clunk.I parked it into the garage and it shouldnt be frozen up so something else has to be wrong

Where did you lift the truck from? Were the front tires hanging at the lowest position? I doubt you lifted it from each front wheel, probably from the front cross member right? which means they were hanging... Not good on the cv axles. Get the front end back up, spin each wheel in neutral in both right and left locked turns and look for any binding.

PS, what were you doing with it up off the ground in 4x4 with the "throttle on it" Checking something?

LIFT???? I never said that TOYZ I said Last night i started my truck like i turned the key lol not cranked as in lift the truck and i left it in 4x4

Okay so i just checked to see if the front driveshaft will turn when the 4x4 light is on and it does if this helps yall diagnose the problem

I must have misinterpreted when you said you "cranked" your truck up, put it in drive and "all 4 wheels were spinning"

Yes. I was all confused as to what was going on as well. A little more better gremmer mite be en ordar.

Spinning all 4 from a stop? hmmm maybe time for a transfer case rebuild.

Yea the 4 wheel wasnt fully engaged and we have snow on the ground right now they were all spinnin and i gave it quite a bit of throttle then i heard a loud clunk. then no four wheel drive played around with it and finally got it engaged now i cant get it back to engage.

Mine has done the same thing. Im alsmost certain its the shift fork in the diff. I also have an 03, my lights come on can hear it clickin in. But no power to the front. Mine is the shift fork.
