Transmission fluid level

99 5.4L 4x4 auto
I changed the transmission fluid a bit after I did my swap about 15k miles ago. Including TC and followed procedures correctly. Level was checked at cold and driving temps for a few days afterward to make sure the level was correct, which it was. I checked the level this morning (about 10k miles later) as I was getting ready for a long trip. Truck was cold and hasn't been started since last night. Fluid level is about and inch above the hot/do not add mark, basically at the top of the white plastic. Which is too high, but I'm not sure what would cause this. Like I said, after the fluid change and refill, I followed all procedures and for days afterward the level was correct. No signs of any shift/transmission related issues. Just wondering why or how the fluid level could raise like that, something to do with the front differential or transfercase? Fluid still looks good, doesn't smell burnt or anything out of the ordinary. I guess the concern today is, is it safe to drive... It's X-mas eve.. got some traveling to do.

Trans and drive train have original miles, which is 133k

Check the fluid when at operating temp, in Park... on level ground, for an accurate measure. It can show on the high side when stone cold

recheck with the engine up to temp 1st....should be fine then.

check you engine oil level too....is it down??
check your antifreeze also...is it low??

if yes to either of the last 2 then you might have a issue.

the manual states that it is best to get a measurement after driving for 20 miles with the engine still running.

Well, I guess everyone's allowed 1 dumb moment, I just used mine. Checked it while warm and running... right on the hot line. Wasn't quite awake yet this morning maybe, too much going on. Thanks for the quick input like always.

I just don't remember it being that high at cold before

Yes 20 miles when hot , BUT! - You have to go thru the gears before you check it.

KOER, foot on the skidders/ From park down to first and back up again. Pausing in each gear.
