kind of a stupid question

i bought my truck just about a year ago and i noticed it has a block heater that goes into a freeze plug. the truck has 218,000 on it and im kind of affraid to plug it in because i dont want it to start leaking. anyone have these on theirs and should i even worry about it causing a problem after this long? its a 4.6 and i dont know when it was installed. thanks guys

mine has one as well .. its a factory thing.. ive used mine with no repercutions but ive been told that since its a gas motor then your realllly dont need it and why risk causing other problems like a coolant leak if you dont have too.. IMO its not even worth using or trying.. just unplug it or zip tie it up and out of the way...

Mine has one also. Is it worth it to remove it?

im not going to take it out either way,it would be more of a pain for you than to just tie it up somewhere and forget about it. with the first - degree weather last night it had me thinking about it but was just worried it would lead into a problem if i did use it. opinions still welcome thanks guys

I don't see how it would cause a leak if you plug it in. I'd be more worried about it being shorted out or something and popping a breaker. I have yet to try mine.

I have an aftermarket one. But I have never had any problems in any of my vehicles that I have owned and all of them have had one in them. I usually only used them if it was colder than 40-50 below.
