1999 F150 5.4 exhaust rattle?

I have a 1999 F150 5.4l. In the past few months the truck has a very noticable rattle that seem's to be coming from the exhaust, or one of the mounting pieces for it. If I lightly push on the exhaust tip it will stop for a split second, which makes me think it's rubbing. It happens only when i'm in idle...?

Check the heat shields? They are a common problem area when it comes to rattle noises.

Check all the exhaust clamps also. Or when the truck is off and its cool, get under it and tap around on the exhaust, youll find it.

My 02 seems to be doing this also. I only hear it when my truck is under a load like pulling a steep graded hill and it seems to make the noise under the drivers side floorboard when the transmission is about to downshift to pull the grade. I have checked all of my clamps on the pipes and they are tight.

You sure it's not spark knock?

Have you tried a tank of premium gas just to rule that out?

Nah, the hardware should have them. You want 104's = 129mm-178mm. That is what's stamped on the clamps. 129mm = 5"/ 178mm = 7"

I clamped them for awhile and it worked for a few years. They started getting noisy again after another tack weld snapped free. That's all they are is tack welded on. I completely removed them after that, busted them off by hand and that was that, - no more noise. You have plenty of heat protection between the cats and the cab. Just look above the converters, you'll see what I mean.
