Exclamation 71' boss 351 tribute truck

Hey guys, my name is Austin and for my 16th birthday i got a 2003 base model F150 Sport XL. I am content with the 4.6L but i realy want to drop a 351 Cleavland in. I was reserching my idea one day but couldn't find any information about the engine mounts or any of the little details. I preposed the idea to my dad and we decided that we are going to make a 71' Mustang Boss 351 tribute truck, like Dodge has done with the 1500 Super Bee. I just wanted to know what y'all thought and if that engine would fit under the hood and if i needed to get a new transmission. Also if you knew anything about Hurst shifters that would be great. Thanks

It should fit. My buddy just took out the 4.2 V6 in his 2000 F150 and swapped in a 302 with a 3spd auto. His truck originally had a 5spd M5OD. The swap was not too hard especially because the new motor is not fuel injected. The hardest part of the swap was making new motor mounts and transmission mounts. I would post some pics but my phone wont send them for some reason.

On a side note his stock 4.2 had over 280,000 miles on it and the engine still looked brand new inside even with years of abuse including a 150 shot.

Check with Trans-Dapt (562) 921-0404. techsupport@tdperformance.com
They may make a mount kit that will work for that swap and if not they do make universal engine mount and cross member kits.
I've used the universal kits in the past and it's usually easier, in my opinion, to use them than it is to fabricate mounts and cross members from scratch.

that would be unique. Lots of work. The Cleveland engine was the best small displacement engine ford ever made. They didnt make it long though and there isnt near the aftermarket support there is for the Windsors. I'd find a mustang and fix it up.

what y'all thought...

I think... if there's a will, there's a way.
Make it happen and slap some BOSS 351 labels on the front fenders.
Run some MACH 1 stripes, maybe a set of new Magnum 500's, have yourself a sweet tribute truck.
I would definitely give you a big if we drove by each other.

hell a 460 7.5L will drop right in as long as you have a rear sump oil pan, you need the mounts but it BOLTS right in. C6 takes some adjusting of the crossmember to get the transmission mount to square up. It's all doable but its a time issue for some people.

I don't know if I see the wisdom in yanking out a perfectly good mod v8 to drop in an old-school pushrod motor...

If anything I think a 92-96 would be more appropriate for the cleveland swap. But it's your truck man, and the motor swap wouldn't be that hard if you run a carb. Just some engine mounts, exhaust, and a ton of money. You didn't mention which trans you're running, but if you have the 4R70W I think it'll bolt right up without an adapter. May have to run a standalone TCM, not for sure though.

You will need a transmission to go along with the engine. Your 4.6 transmission will not bolt up. Contact http://www.massfloefi.com/mass-flo-s...fi-system-p-19 for info on a Fuel injection system.

The bellhousing bolt patterns are different and that is why they will not bolt together.

Nope, everything is different between those two. For the models in this forum:-

4R100 & E4OD are basically the same. The 4r100 is an updated E4OD for 10th generation trucks. The 4r70w/4r75w are smaller and are an updated aod/aode.

The 4r100 is the same trans put behind a diesels/lightnings and very reliable when taken care of.
