Not necesarrily, but it puts the most strain on the transmission. More so than the engine.

It's a problem in any truck you put bigger tires on. Your stock gear ratio is given by an axle code on the door jamb of the driver door.

It's also more of a problem for trucks with auto trans rather than manuals until you get to the highway

ahhh thanks for the clarification, so if OP doesnt upgrade to bigger tires/wheels, he should be fine without a gear upgrade? Or is it just a problem period?

It's not a problem persay. If you run stock size tires or just over stock size and stock gears your fine. When you go from a 29-31" stock tire to a 35+ tire your gonna have problems with your tranny adjusting to the bigger heavier tires. The rpms are off and it wants to up and down shift alot etc so to avoid problems and increase driveability and regain almost stock performance you Change the gear ratio to one that will resemble stock. It's just stressful to the trans when the motor is already workin hard and then adds bigger heavy tires and no help for it it'll wear out alot faster

I would go with 4:10s or 4:56s. I have 4:56s and the acceleration is good, but I would rather run lower rpms on the highway.

I would suggest the 4.56's with the 35's for sure, you will be happy with them

Id like to do the lights as well probably right after Christmas.
The truck actually was bought new in 2000 by my grandparents. They passed away recently and I bought it through the estate yesterday. Miles are 64,000 and the 5.4 motor.
My driveway is tapered GaNole so although it does look a little higher in front, it has never been touched. Good call though.
Thanks for the compliments, They kept very good care of it and I actually had to remove the plastic slip covers from the seats and the plastic carpet covers on the floors when I got it.
Anyway a work in progress, but unlike all my other vehicles, this one has a little more personal attachment.
I took my moldings off and had no problem. Just was a pain in the ***, make sure that its definately heated up otherwise getting the goo can be a pain to get off.. I have some pics on my profile with some easy semi cheap suggestions you can look into.. IE getting rid of molding / painting honeycomb / tinting tail lights (its not legal and I suggest if you look into doing it being very light on it, mine are way too dark) / lightning bar / lightning heads / get rid of decals / I haven't finished yet but when i stop being lazy plan on painting the lower valence along with wiper cowels and fender flares.. Wish i could show you what its like when it all matches..

If you have any questions on anything I did let me know and I will guide you through my roteine to give you an idea.

All good advices guys. I appreciate the suggestions. The little things i can do anytime (lights, molding, GOTTS, even a cheaper exhaust replacement) but the bigger things like programmers and gears will be an "after christmas" thing.
My 4y/o son and 1 yr old daughter come first and I am fighting the wife right now to let me get him his first real 4 wheeler (he has 5 power wheels) and my 1 yr old her first pink powerwheels F150. So $50 here and there is no big deal, but the thousand dollar jobs will wait till Feb/March....
(unless this classified section picks up, been a little slow latelyfor used parts)
