got my 4.88 gears....

they just arent installed yet!

got them from wayne at diffsonly.com. great prices with great customer service too!! they are yukon 4.88's

i have a question though. what are you guys paying for install? people in michigan are REALLY proud of their labor! i got quoted $1200 just for install!! when i was in virginia i could get gears and install for 1600!

looks like im going to have to get them put in one at a time. is there anything i should worry about if i do this? i would pull the fuse for the 4x4 switch. would i have to disconnect the driveshaft?

Pull the fuse for the switch and you will be fine leaving the d-shaft in. You would get a better price if you can take your axles out and take it to them. But if you have the gears already id think 800-1,000 would be a good install price. Didnt notice but did you get install kits?

I paid $200 total for labor , but that was through a friend, I think you can expect somewhere around $500 - $700 per axle for install. Like Cecil said, it's cheaper if you drop the axles and bring them in.

Yea that price included a Ford 9" swap, maybe each axle ? It might of been just the rear. I had problems with the factory foreign set up in the 1990 model year. Pins were weak, - snapped while running 40's in the swamp no less.

Nice man!

1200 sounds about right to me. I paid barely over $600 when I got my rear end done.

what about the break in process? i asked the guy and he said that he doesnt check the gears after 500 miles and has never heard of anyone doing that. i thought that you should check the wear pattern? i know that i should change the oil though.

Not sure what others opinions are on break in process but when my brother got his 5.13s he wasn't suppose to "drive hard" on them and just take it easy for 500 miles. Then change the oil and good to go.
