Weird metallic clicking sound!

Ok It has been quite awhile since I have been on here, but I am hearing a distinct noise coming from my truck and I know all of you can help me out. I first noticed it when I stabbed the accelerator to pass someone, its a strange metallic clicking sound. It stopped when I left off accelerator. Well now i noticed it when I was just driving regular down a road. It sounds like its coming from passenger side directly under cab, but who knows? Anyway if you have had this happen or know what this is let me know, so I can repair it...money is tight nowadays so i hope its something I can do myself. No codes, its a 2001 f150 Screw 5.4, 6" fabtech, diablo programmer, 18x10 wheels 325/65 tires, if you need more info let me know.

Does it change in rate or intensity with speed, on or off the throttle? I'm not a mechanic at all, but 1st guesses are u-joint or wheel bearings? Not just a piece of debris in a tire?
sorry, just re-read and saw that it went away off throttle, then came back. NM the tire thing then. Hope someone points you in the right direction.

Possibly an exhaust leak. You sure it isn't spark knock? Try a tank of premium gas to rule that out.

Either an exhuast leak or a bad U-joint for sure. Get underneath there and look for play in the driveshaft. Thats a sure sign of the U-joint going bad. Look for a purple-ish colored liquid around it also.. thats a guarantee that it needs to be replaced. They aren't bad to replace either.. only like 10-15 dollars at a local auto parts store.

I bet it's the cat shields, - Ford has a TSB about it. My 04 did the same thing and they replace two converters under the emissions warranty.

My 98 cat shields started to get noisy , way back when. - First I followed the TSB/ Later, that didn't even work. I removed the shields and that was that.

There's really no other way to confirm other than wrapping a couple large band clamps around them. If the noise goes away , well... Thing is, that won't last forever, -6 months to a year. This is per Ford instruction.
