You're looking for something that isn't supposed to be there.
Are you absolutely sure that the 97 4.2 doesn't have the CHT sensor? I have read other posts on f150 forums where guys are saying that their 1997 4.2 f150s had CHT sensors that went bad and that is what was causing the engine to crank for 5 to 10 seconds before starting if the vehicle has been sitting for awhile. If the truck has been recently running, shut off for 10 minutes or less, it starts right up. Also it's not a fuel pump issue as I did the key turn prior to cranking test. Any idea what else could be the culprit here?

You sure you aren't confusing it with another sensor?

I am sure I have read that others have replaced this sensor and their problem was resolved. However I am open to any other suggestions if someone has had this same issue and found a different resolution.

Tell you what. You find a CHT on a 97 4.2, you let us know.
