backup camera

Hey guys,

I know a lot of people have done different posts about which cameras to get, but I have an actual question about installation and haven't been able to find an answer here. I have a 2002 F-150 SC Fx4, and I bought a backup camera to install on my KVT-717. The camera is made to be hooked up to a reverse light for camera, but I tried splicing it in to my trailer hitch wiring and it didn't work out. Like every other wire, it has a positive and a negative wire. I hooked it up to a 9v batter just to test it and it works fine, and I know my trailer wires work fine, so I just think I had it hooked up wrong. Does anyone know if that just doesn't provide enough power, or if I should just hook it up to the tail lights or something. Long story short, I just want it to get power whenever I put the truck in reverse. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks guys!

Take out your tail light and hook into the reverse wire. It should be 12v
