Rear Axle Not Center?
Rear Axle Not Center?
Ok, This is my 97 F150 XLT.

I bought it in February of 09.
One thing I noticed was the nearly bald Tera Tracs on the back and the almost new ones up front. I didn't worry about it too much, just figured the guy before me spun the tires alot. This last December I put on brand new Goodyear Wranglers, and the back tires now have half as much tread as the front. I replaced the shocks thinking that might be the problem, but they still wear. I measured the Rear Axle and it's only off by a 1/2 inch. Could that 1/2 inch be wearing them down that fast? Another reason I think it's the Axle is that my Tranny leaks at the Driveshaft. Any advise or comments would be great, I want to get this fixed before I have to buy more tires.

I saw your other post about making money, looks like you tow alot of stuff for other people.
If both rears are wearing the same but different than the front it's probably normal. Especially if you haven't rotated the tires regularly. The more agressive the tread pattern the more often you should rotate them to get the best life out of them. When you tow there is more stress on the rear (driven) tires than the fronts.
Hope that helps.

My backs are bald. 4.6 power!!
I believe thats completely normal if you don't rotate them. The backs get more wear. They're the tires pushing the truck. I'm sure they break loose and spin quite often also. Mine do on accident pretty often and I don't even hotrod my truck. I'm pretty sure my tires have never been rotated and mine are bald in the back and the fronts are still decent. And i'm no tire expert but your back tires look more worn in the middle and not the sides... over inflated maybe?

Awesome! I was really hoping it would be somethin' right under my nose. I never rotated the tires cause I thought something was really wrong. The Truck was a repo, but I heard that the guy who owned it before me owned a small construction company and hauled a trailer a lot too, which explains the old Tera Tracs. As for the inflation, I played around with different tire pressures and got the same tread wear.
Thanks for the help guys, I was at a big loss and was ready to get another F150.
