Yep, digging up an old thread... Did you ever figure out what the issue was? After searching, everyone recommended Lexol, but I've never used it. My leather could use some TLC.

I use a bristle brush to work in the cleaner and that aggitates and works out the dirt. I do the same thing on people's center console lids that get caked with dirt over time.

Nothing special, just a regular one. That's odd, works every time for me. I use Meg's leather cleaner and conditioner but I wouldn't think that would be the difference in results.

lexol makes applicator pads, which are pretty much a microfiber sponge. I use those with the lexol cleaner followed by lexol conditioner and comes out looking great every time...

Usually only a couple minutes. I've detailed some cars that were pretty bad and had to do a 2nd application but it has all come out the 2nd time around.

I use a soft brush too with the cleaner, I dip it in a little bit of water and work in circular motions, almost to a lather then I wipe it down, and wipe it again with a clean wet rag. Once it drys it kinda tightens up the leather nice, afterwards I use the conditioner. Works great for me.
