U Joint - 02 F150 4X4

I was driving on the highway about 70mph when my U Joint broke on the drive shaft. I got it pulled over on the shoulder and then was still able to drive it down the off ramp (10mph) to a gas station. Everyone I have talked to doesn't believe me or understand why I was still able to drive my truck with my drive shaft completely disconnected to my rear end? It was on 2 wheel drive (switch) and no light was on saying other wise. I've read a few articles on here regaurding the matter, so my question is do I need to have my four wheel drive checked or is there another explanation?

if you coasted, no surprise.

If you had power to the front wheels in 2wd, sounds like your hubs are sticking engaged

I did have power, I came to a complete stop at a light and then gave it gas to turn and pull into the gas station. Where I once again came to a complete stop and parked. I even moved again to a different spot. It had power but vibrated really bad.

Sounds like your driveshaft did not separate from the differential or tranny, depending on if it broke in front or rear. If it separated and hit the ground or went thru the floorboard, then 4wd had to be engaged somehow. I blew the rear driveshaft on an 87 Ranger I had years ago, but was able to carefully drive it home in 4wd with the front diff.
