Hitch interchangeability

I am picking up a 97 flareside. It don't have a hitch on it, so my question is (yes i searched) are all hitches the same? I checked some aftermarket numbers and they appear to all be the same hitch for all applications. Does anyone know for sure?

Depends what you mean. Hitches bolt up to different cars in different locations if thats what you want to know.

I don't believe the styleside/flareside option matters. My '03 flareside didn't come with the tow package and I called the Ford dealer to get a quote on having the receiver/wiring installed. Seems that the bed style doesn't matter...they just put on a Class III receiver

It won't mater since it attaches to the fram and hangs below the bumper.
