diagnosing an electrical problem (possibly?)

I'll start off by describing my truck as thoroughly as I can. I have some diesel mechanic experience, but forgive me if i forget anything.

its a 2002 regular cab f150 sport 4.2L v6 5speed.

I was driving in from work a few days ago and noticed a bit of hesitation under the hood and dismissed it for being an exhaust or fuel problem. Near the end of my trip the truck cut out completely and i realized it was electrical. I popped the hood and realized the cables going to the terminal had come out. I trimmed the insulator back and cut the old wire off and reinserted the wires in the terminal and tightened them back up and off I went. I have power now and I can drive but I'm experiencing some severe hesitation. Any suggestions?

ps I've only got about 150 bucks to my name until friday, so I'm doing anything I can at home to avoid going to the mechanic before then.

What terminals did you do this on?
Was it battery cables or some other wires?
What circuits does it feed?
Need to address one issue at a time or confusion reigns.

it was the wire that goes to the positive battery terminal. as for what circuits it feeds i'm not sure. part of the wire only goes about 8" and connects to something mounted on the firewall. it was a selection of 2 wires that fed to the terminal. if i picture would help i could take one.

This is a main heavy power cable to a fuse on the firewall.
No good temporary fix on this but to replace the cable or for a good job with replacment terminal ends.
If you need more circuit info, get a copy of the Haynes repair manuel to see the circuit drawing of the start circuit and other sections.
See page 12-17 for the start circuit.
Good luck.
