engine misfire

I just got done installing a 2000 4.2 engine into my 97 F150. Now my problem is with misfire. Is there a way to "relearn the computer" so it will fire right with the new engine? I bought new plugs to install but the ones in it looked fine. Any ideas besides the usual plugs, wires and coil pack?

You don't 'relearn' the computer for fire order..
It has the v6 indicator in the vehichle's PCM software ID block as well as the correct order in the operating program.
You have incorrect hardware issues to work out.
1. The cam sensor has to be set in place referenced to crank position, then adjusted to proper "Final position".
2. The coils HV cables have to be wired to proper cylinders.
.
Rebooting a PCM involves removeing power that clears all software adjustable tables back to the base program, only.
Then the tables begin to shift according to vairable driving conditions dictated by sensor inputs.
The ignition 'order' never changes because they are not an adjustable table.
Good luck.

It was just bad plugs. Changed the plugs and it runs smooth as silk. Thought it had "new plugs" in it to begin with. A can also say that yes you can put a 2000 4.2 V6 into a 97 with no major work. The only thing I had to do was use the 2000 model injector plugins on my 97 harness bucause I used the 2000 injectors bucause they looked a lot better. And I had to use my 97 lower intake on the 2000 engine. The rest was plug and play.
