Smoother ride
Smoother ride
I just too a long trip in my moms tahoe and it was a nice ride, so I was wondering aside from replacing all of my suspension(original except shocks which are bout 3 years old) with new stuff what else can I do to give my self a smoother ride.
Its a 4x4 truck you cant compare it to a chevy tahoe. They made the tahoe tp go cruising down the road with a load of people.
I hate to say it, but I think the GM trucks in our model year range rode a lot nicer for every day daily driving. I used to have an 04' Yukon AWD in my fleet. That thing rode really nice and smooth as far as the suspension. I've also ridden in a few GM pick ups, they were smooth as well. Don't get me wrong, I'll take my F150 over them any day, but the ride was much nicer.
When was the last time your shocks were changed out? What brand are you running? What load range tires do you have? There could be another determining factor as to why your ride is rough. But when it's all said and done, it is a truck, so you kinda have to expect the rougher ride.
My front shocks are the monroe shocks(black color) and the rear are the auto load adjusting monroe, and the rest is what ever came on the truck when it rolled off the line my tires are nitto terra grapplers 315x75r16, I realize I am asking for a miracle with this set up

Hmm, I can't speak to the quality of monroe shocks. But load adjusting? Can you set the adjustment any to make it less stiff of a ride? Also, those over sized off road tires obviously stiffen the ride. What load range are they? Mine are load range "E" - with 10ply side walls.
They are stiff, but I don't mind the ride and it's not my daily driver.
A lot of members have praised Bilstien shocks. I have them installed, as they came with my lift, but they didn't make my ride any smoother.

I have the Monroe Reflex monotubes in the front and the Load Adjusters in the back and I have been happy with the ride. You can not adjust the load adjusting shocks they get firmer the more they are compacted. Bilstien shocks will be stiffer than the set up you have now for sure. If your shocks are still good I would look at your tires. What load range are they and what pressure are you running them at?
does anyone know anything about the energy suspension kit where it replaces all of the bushing and stuff, also I guess I am going to have to replace all of my old suspension components to see if the ride improves a little but since it is mostly an off road truck i am driving daily I guess I will have to put up with the ride till I can afford a newer vehicle(I refuse to give up my truck)
I don't know about you guys, but my 4x4 rides pretty dang good considering what it was made for. I have been in cars that rode alot worse. I think my truck rides as good as a car (not a Lincoln or Caddy, have you) but comfortable yet truck like..... if that makes any sense. Not much more to say
well, since u have 35's and a body lift, im assuming you have your torsion bars cranked up a little also. the best way to get it to ride better would be to lower your preload on your torsion bars.
well I am gonna go ahead and replace my ball joints and tie rods since I have not touched them since we bought the truck in '98 and all of the rubber boots(I think thats what they are called) are all rotting away and falling apart
