Transmission knock or Motor knock

I really have no clue if its coming from inside my oil pan or maybe its my tranny. when i go in reverse it makes a weird ticking and at first start and slow driving its like a clanking or rattleing to a beat. Has anyone delt with this before , and whats my best bet? Its a 99 f-150 5.4 4x4

If it is ticking noise that changes with rpm, check u-joints.

It does it when the truck starts up without even moving.

Today im happy to say I found the problem i removed the transmission to take it to a local tranny shop it exposed my fly wheel whitch was almost completly cracked in a perfect circle around the bolts. Does anyone have any idea what it could be from normal wear and tear i have no clue i have alredy purchace a new one and mounted it on.still having the tranny rebuilt for $600 cause it was a pain to remove and first gear shifts so hard.

Check the crankshaft for excessive end play with a dial indicator and compair to the max spec for the motor.
Look at the peices to see if the crack started a long time ago and just let go as the small remaing metal gave way.
Good luck.
