Rim size question

Hi all, I have a 2wd 1997 F150 that has tires sized
235 70R 16 The rims are starting to show there age. Some guy on Craigslist has a nice set of rims that he says came off a 1997 F150. I talked to him and he says the rim size is 15". Just want to make sure that my tires will fit these rims. Thanks for the help

You can't fit 15 inch wheels over the brakes of the 97-03 F-150's. This is why no one makes 15 inch wheels in our 5x135mm bolt pattern. He must have been running some weird setup.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe he is mistaken on the size rim. Can I measure the rim and if so how? Or will there be something stamped on the rim itself? Sorry to be such a new guy here

It should be stamped somewhere on the rim, and know your tires (16in) will not fit the 15 iin rims. The 235 is the size of your tire, the 70 is the profile, and the r16 is the rim size.
The other thing is he could also be wrong on the year or what they came off of. I just dealt with a car that they guy didn't know what type of car he was selling even though it still said it on the back.

There used to be a few 15" wheels in 5x135. They had very little backspacing so they stuck out a lot and I think they only fit the earlier trucks with rear drum brakes.

IIRC 15" rims will fit with a little grinding of the calipers.
