Horrid annoying squeak.

Ok, been tooling around with my truck the past couple days, just getting to all the little things I have wanted to for a while, and over the last week I have had one thing pop up that is rather annoying. When I backup, I have this horrible squeak, sounds like rubber rubbing together. I have lubed all u-joints, checked t-case fluid, etc. as this is in the area where its coming from. Anyone got any ideas what else I can check? I occasionally hearing it going forward at low speeds, but its rather faint and disappears quickly, but in reverse, its always there. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

I know you said it sounds like it is coming from the middle of the truck but check your brakes and e-brake one could be dragging in reverse but in a why so you dont hear it moving forward
good luck figuring out a noise is always a PITA

Done all 4 corners in the last month. Never hurts to recheck though.

Another detail I did not mention... If I jack up the *** end, then put it in reverse it doesnt make the noise. So it must be something when its getting put under stress, or at least some force to move.

replace the u joints, they can make a bunch of different noises, one of mine went out and sounded horrible. New u joints can be bought for like 12 bucks each. so even if they are still good its a cheap place to start

+1 on U joints. Mine did exact same thing. Mine didn't wiggle, but the rear was frozen in the yoke, didn't move a bit. Needle bearings were literally dust.

Got the U-Joints done today, went ahead and replaced both and glad I did. The front one wasnt too bad, but the back one.... Man! 2 of the cups were fine, but the other two looked as if they hadn't seen grease in a few years. The roller pins inside the cup had broken down and were rust powder. Im amazed I hadnt had more problems with it. Took it out and she drives like new. Amazing what new fluid in the case and some u-joints can do.

Thanks for the help, it made my life a little easier.

Mine just started making the same sound. It only happens after I have driven a while. I also can only hear it when turning at slow speeds. Could it be the same thing??

To try and figure out where its coming from I had my wife drive my truck slow, and I walked beside and just listened to get a feel for where it was coming from. Your noise could be a number of things (brakes, cv, t-case, u-joints). Try to get an idea what part of the truck the noise is coming from.

If it is the u-joint(s), do both at the same time. They are inexpensive, easy to change, and its worth it for the peace of mind.
Hope This Helps.

Yes it does help. I know the rear brakes will need changed soon, so it could be that. I have a new rear end the only thing that stayed the same was the brakes and u-joints. So I will just change them both. Thanks........
