Softer shocks wanted...

Did a search, but still have questions.

I have 01 Screw with a 5.4 and 2WD. I have Michelin LTX 265-17 tires on stock rims and stock replacement shocks from Ford. They are the Harley Davidson replacements, as they have superseded the originals I've been told.

Now my problem: The car feels like a dump truck, as it bounces around on any uneven road, pot holes, etc. on the street or highhway. I had some HD shocks installed first, but they were terrible. Tried some shocks from Advanced after that. Maybe Monroe or Bilstein? Now I'm on the Ford replacements.

I actually took them off today to see what it felt like. It's softer, but as expected bounces up and down. It did fix my bad sqeak though.

Is there a shock that has a soft jounce and a stiff rebound? This will help absorb the initial compression and the rebound will work with the spring to prevent bouncing.

Not finding anything local, but Monroe Sensatrac, I bought them for the front. I'll drive it this week and see how it goes, then maybe buy the rears.

I love my Bilsteins. Had on my 98 4x4 as well, and they were great also. Best price I found was 4 wheel parts. There are several shock places on line with good prices as well.

Monroe Sensatrac, I got them. They made my truck soft and bouncy, I wanted something stiffer.

I think a lot of my problem is the tires, which are Michelin LTX. They have a very stiff sidewall or are just to HD for the truck and everyday driving. When I'm making turns on a bumpy surface, I can feel the back end bounce and skip around. The original BG Goodrich tires were softer and more comfortable, but wore out fast. Still lots of tread on the Michelins, so I have a while before I buy new (and softer sidewall) tires.
