I think its an indicator like the check engine light, IIRC. Maybe try and get some codes pulled.

"They" being a reputable transmission shop or the dealership, yes. I don't think that the scanners the local auto parts stores carry are capable of pulling transmission codes.

I noticed my OD light flashing one night coming home from work and I got worried. Mechanic at work (who has an F150) said the wires running through the shifter handle could wear down and short out. I disconnected the battery to reset computer and all has been cool since... and that was six months ago

Yup. Mine sure was.

Are you getting any hard shifts?

Normally when the wires short out it just blows the fuse. Mine will last about 3-4 days before it blows. It shouldn;t cause a OD flash though.
The OD flashing light is basically a check engine lgiht for your tranny.

Is the tranny slipping under hard acceleration? When my light started blinking I had to replace the tranny about a month later.....Blinking light means start price checking. I bought mine on ebay for under $700 and I pulled a 4000 lb trailer thru the mountains with no problems..

thats the thing the tranny is performing the same way it always has, there is no diffrence now than before. I have NO hard shifts at all and no sliping or anything like that. Thats why im so confused
