Slow Speed Overheat

My truck seems to have a slow speed overheating problem. Today it ran at 208 on the highway which is normal for my truck. Today when driving through town my cylinder head temperature hit 232 which is really odd after it had been running good all day. The question is when I shut the truck off I could not squeeze the top radiator line like I usually can. Does this mean my thermostat is stuck shut?

I would start cheap first. New thermostat, then look at a new clutch for the fan, then I would look at the water pump. The reason around town driving is hotter is because not as much air is going through the radiator. At a stop light there is no air at all except for what the fan and clutch are pulling through the radiator and shroud. Hope this helps!

I agree with clutch fan but I would think if the thermostat were stuck closed you would have a major overheating problem. I would start with the fan and go from there

How many miles on the truck? I replaced a water pump on one with 200K, and the impellor vanes were near worn off! Same issue. Low speed overheating, and fine on the highway.
