Use the Motorcraft oil and filter...assuming the truck takes 5W-20 it should be synthetic

Lucky you have easier access. The filter is the reason I take mine to have the oil changed

What would you recommend in my 99 4.6 V8 2WD?

Im in Canada, so from day one i have been running 10w-30 in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter.

Should i change?

Exactly ^^^^ Use what Ford recommends, -It's not that expensive, -I've been doin it for almost 300,000 miles. 5W 30 for me, then the spec changed to 5w 20 and use a blend, - that's what they recommend.

Make sure you use a Motorcraft filter.

X2 on the filter...I had used fram for years but found a lot of complaints w/ them on the F150s and the quality was horrendous...stick w/ Motorcraft

I run 5w-30 synthetic year round. You don't need the 10w-30 in the summer. I use Quaker State synthetic but only because it is easy to find and parts stores don't sell motorcraft oil here it is dealer only and expensive. I do run the motorcraft oil filter though.

The early two valve 5.4's ran 5w-30 and the rumor is that this was changed to 5w-20 for fuel savings and I can't see any gains made by doing that. Plus the girlfriends Blazer runs 5w-30 so I have it on hand most of the time anyhow. If I remember correctly 5w-30 is also cheaper than the 5w-20 for some odd reason but meets all the same specs.

I noticed no change in MPG or oil use going from 5W30 to 5W20 here in Pa, but I've been using the Motorcraft oil since the 5W20 has been the cheapest in the 5Qt jug at wallyworld. The wifey's Deathstar calls for 5W20 anyhow....

And the Motorcraft filters too, again inexpensive at wallyworld, and better than Fram....

My truck is a 97 4.6L w/104K miles.
