so about 2 months ago i did the axle swap.. before it went it i had put 3 new seals in the axle.. i get wheels and tires 2 weeks ago and now those 3 seals are alll done for.. the pinion seal is leaking bad and the pass. side seal is leaking fluid onto the new wheels.. wtf.. has anybody else had seals go bad sooo fast..

 

not so fast, but my original 148k mile seals went bad.........I replaced them before winter and knock on wood they're still good. and they were the 2 dollar advance auto specials.

 

you pinion seal bore might be wallered out from a bad U joint, they should sell oversized seal or a seal and a sleeve for it

 

Are those new wheels and tires larger then stock?? What rear end is it? What gears do you have?

I had the passenger side seal go on me about 6 years ago and I replaced them both with just some NAPA replacements.... They have been fine ever since... I've never had an issue with the pinion seal (KOW!)... I also replaced the rear U joint around the same time frame and it's still tight...

The new tires might just be a coincidence in timing...

The tires and wheels are bigger.. its an 8.8 with 4.10s i think i may have been too rough with them when i put em in.. idk really ..

 

The axle bearings ride on the axles so if the axles are worn the seals won't last long. Also, a little lube should be put on the seal face initially so it won't start off dry.

 

Hummm... Well that could be a reason... Did you do the pinion seal yourself too? Strange that it's leaking at the same time too?

Maybe you have too much gear oil in the case? It should be just a tad under the fill hole.

Or a clogged vent tube, fluid will expand when it gets warmer, and if the vent is clogged, it goes out through the seals
