p103 cylinder misfire 00 5.4???

I've got a 00 5.4 automatic f150, it has 151k miles on it. I've had it since 145k miles and haven't done anything to the engine. it has a K&N air filter, when I start it up it'll miss when its cold and sputter, but not all the time, someone told me to clean my IAC..I haven't done that yet, but I got the code for p0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected. Could this be related or is it the #1 coil pack??? I'm not sure where to start. I searched it but I couldn't find any real answer. Please help me get this straightened out, my inspection runs out this month and I have to plug it in for the inspection.......will this code come right back or no? its been doing this for about a month and it doesn't seem down on power, and today is the first time the light came on.

And 5fours don't have coil packs. You most likley have a bad coil #1.

#1 is also furthest from the fuel pump. So could be a filter or bad pump, you have to check some things.

yes check your fuel filter but i would pull the plug ( only when cold) and check them more than likely its the coil on plug. I change them out at work all the time

If you only have the 301 code; the problem is stareing you in the face.
Most likely a coil.
Fix that cylinder's problem and do not do a code clear or reboot the PCM so close to inspection ending time.
The code will clear by it'self on the second engine drive cycle at the most, if the problem has been fixed.
If you do a code clear with a reader or reboot, all the monitors will reset and some may show up at inspection time if any have not run it's diagnostics to completion and could cause you to be rejected.
Especially the vapor system takes a long time to run.
Any monitor not clear will keep a code 1000 set until all are clear.

well it sputtered this morning, then blew white smoke until it cleared up...(wide open...cleared up about 4k rpm in 2nd gear...or could that just be condensation? it wasnt excessive or anything) and once it smoothed out the smoke did also, but its most likely the coil pack and not the injector? I was thinking the injector was leaking down and flooding the cylinder and the white smoke was un burnt fuel? or its definitely the coil pack? and yes its only the 301 code.

White smoke is usually coolant, transmission fluid etc that are non hydrocarbon based substances meaning they don't burn very well but vaporize.
Black/grey smoke is excess gas, oil or any hydrocabon based substance that has not fully combusted (the smoke).
Can get a combo of the two depending on the cause.
If there is a coolant leak into a cylinder, the plug will misfire and you have both conditions at the same time.
Listen to the exhaust for a put put sound. If yes, you hear a missfire.
The decisions are what cylinder and what is the fault?
Then what is the repair needed.
Good luck.

it doesnt smoke when its warm out and has been sitting though.....so it must be the coilpack and the smoke must of been condensation, it was like 22 degrees.......I'm gonna swap coilpacks tommorow.

Hate to break this to yuh, but, - U no have coil packs. No 5.4L's use coil packs. They use dedicated coils (8) = COP systems (coil over plug).

Packs are in charge of more than one cylinder. The older 4.6L's, 10th generation 97-00 used coil packs. Two packs, 4 cylinders per.

Now you know

Don't ask for a COP, - it's just a ignition coil, - ask for a coil lol.

I got one from carquest since my closest ford dealer is 40 minutes away....the one that was there had been replaced before, the other 7 were original motorcraft. runs much smoother. we'll see if it surges tommorow morning or after it sits for awhile or not.
