Pretty sure you're right. Wasn't an option in 2000 MY. I'm thinking 2002+ only. He bought it used, though, so it's entirely possible the original owner put a sticker on, same way he jacked in this system.

My stepfather's Titan has 4x4 Off Road stickers, even though it's a 2WD. (He did it on a lark to get his coworker's goat. Coworker went out and spent $40k+ on a new 4x4 diesel truck just to outdo him. )

Dayton, OH area. I'm gonna first try to see if I can have a friend take all this apart for me though. He's an electrical engineer so hopefully he'd be able to figure it out, if he'll do it that is. Otherwise I'll have to figure something else out.

in 2003-2007 you could order a fully loaded Z71 Tahoe that was 2wd, and they wonder why they went bankrupt
