master cylinder

hi guys i think my master cylinder has gone bad and would like to attempt to change it myself. i have done a lot of work on trucks and cars, just never had to change a master cylinder before. could anyone tell me the exact steps and precautions i should take before i proceed with the work.

Be sure to benchbleed the new one. The last one I replaced came with the instructions on how to do so. But I still had to re-bleed the lines many times.

I don't know how so much air got in there. I think it has something to do with air getting trapped in the anti lock system.
But I've seen several threads here where guys have had the same problem.
Just keep bleeding.

Yep, what Tumba said, Bench bleed and follow instructions. Change all your rubber lines as well. Those lines go bad, specially in that model. When I did it, I replaced all hard-lines, - everything! She stops on a dime now, like new.

You can purchase hard line @ Auto zone, 25 and 50' spools real cheap. For your rubbers , you should go braided if you don't want any future problems. Aftermarket rubbers are cheap and for what the dealership wants for the good ones, you can purchase braided for about the same.

You won't believe the difference when your thru.

I think what it is , some may try self bleeders or try to do it thru a vac tool. That doesn't work, believe me , I've tried it every way. The only way is the two person method. I'm not sure why, whether it's due to the proportioning valve or anti-lock.

Yea. My helper had to go home before we got it working right, so I tried vacuum bleeding, and it just didn't work on my truck. I think I asked you for advice, and then just kept on bleeding with the another helper

Right , that suppose to work according to your vacuum device, - since it comes with the fittings and instructions on how to do so. Ha ha, -no freakin way lol. That doesn't work does it. What does work if your in a bind is your power seat, if no ones around, that's cheating, but I've had to bleed that way before. I don't advise this method tho lol.
