I bought a truck that wont start
greetings
I bought a 1997 f150 4.2, knowing that it is broken. I paid 1000 for it, understanding that probably had a busted fuel pump. I am lucky enough to have a mechanic friend to help. I understand more than average....but no wiz.
The truck sat for 9 months after the previous owner was driving it and it just died on the road as they said. So far we have replaced the fuel pump, starter, fuel filter, old gas in tank, and cam synchronizer and sensor. Now it sounds like it is about to start but wont. The plugs seem fairly new as do the wires. We have checked firing order and all that. I have not given up and we can still do a few more little things...but kinda hitting a wall here. What do you guys think I should do next? should I check injectors, replace plugs (I have cleaned them BTW)? Any ideas would be great....possibly something I have not thought about. The plan is to be a work truck for side jobs and such....so it is not important that it runs asap. So far i have about 1150 invested, and hope to keep it minimal...I am not afraid of the junk yard.
cheers to all and thanks for any help

thanks.......we did check one @ the plug and it had spark....I am not 100% sure if my friend checked more later (it is parked at his house). I sould have mentioned that the old cam synchronizer was damaged, that 1/2 moon at the top was bent up.
check the fuel pump relay! my truck did the same thing... we would beat on the tank and it would kick the pump on, right! the fuel pump is going bad... so we replaced the fuel pump... then it still wouldn't crank sometimes, or it would crank every now and then... so when it wouldn't start and me and my brother was looking at it, he swaped the relay from the pump to the horn and the truck cranked and run fine... it has been cranking and running fine since we changed the relay... hope this helps

we have checked fuel pressure at the engine and that was fine...so i would guess the relay is ok. thanks. Since the synchronizer was bent, I would guess that to be the original failure, could that have jacked something else up?
