Okay guys i need help i have a 98 f150 xlt 5.4l engine i want to know what tranny came in it was it 4R100 or a 4r70w. i need to rebuild mine and i am going to do it myself but i need to know what rebuild kit i need to get and how do i tell.

 

u can double check by calling your local ford dealer they can tell u for sure with the vin#, but i always thought 4.6s came with 4r70w and 5.4 came with 4r100 but im not 100% sure!!

 

Nope, most 5.4's in 98 also had a 4R70W. The E4OD was an option on selected trucks.

The VIN doesn't indicate transmission - the sticker on the door jamb does.
