cold starts

Hey yesterday I started my truck and it began to stutter and then it died. I then started it again and held the gas abit till she was warm and it was fine after that. My buddy has a 99 F150 with the 4.8L and he said his truck does the same thing sometimes.

btw, I have a 4.2..

Has anyone else ever had their truck stall from cold starts?

My bad.. he has the 4.7L.. My truck has been sitting for a roughly a year but I start it atleast once a week. I don't have my full license yet (I'm 17) so I've just been putting money into it.

I'm not concerned about it but I'm just curious if anyone else has ever had the same problem.

Pull your IAC and clean it. If it helps, when it starts doing it again (it WILL), replace it.

I think he is talking about the IACV (Idle air control valve.) And that was also my first thought when i read your post.

Here is part of an article i found that might help you understand what could be goin on with your IACV

"The IACV-air regulator provides an air by-pass when the engine is cold for a fast idle during warm up. A bimetal, heater and rotary shutter are built into the IACV-air regulator. When the bimetal temperature is low, the air by-pass port opens. As the engine starts and electric current flows through the heater, the bimetal begins to turn the shutter to close the by-pass port. The air passage remains closed until the engine stops and the bimetal temperature drops."

Another thing since your truck has been sitting for so long is maybe your gas is going bad... yes gas does go bad after awhile. Pop open your gas cap and take a wiff.. smells a little raunchy then that might be the case.
