4 wheel drive PROBLEM

my dads got a 97 5.4 f150 lariat plow truck, just recently we noticed the 4WD light wasnt comming on when you would switch it into from 2wd to 4hi, and it definately is still in 2wd because u can spin tire of ice or sand and only the back tires will go. any ideas where to start?

A good place to start would be to check the fuses relating to the 4WD system. If in fact it is a fuse then see what runs along that fuse to try and figure out why that fuse blew.

Well the back of the fuse boxes tell you what number fuses they are but look at this online manual to see what fuses are related to the 4WD system.

okay thanks alot RAF i appreciate it, also u know what could be causing the fog lights to only work 50% of the time? we had brake light issues and found by tilting the steering wheel up all the way it makes the brake lights work again....now we cant figure out how to get these fog lights to stay on so we can pass inspection.

The lights working while moving something like the tilt on the steering wheel definitely sounds like a connection issue. Take a look under your steering wheel to see what wire/wires might be affected by the tilting.

I almost had that same problem, but it was with the turn signals. There is a connector on top of the collum, mine was unclipped and when the wheel was tilted down it pulled the connector apart. All I did was plug it back in and its worked fine ever since...
