I put a new fuel pump sock and fuel filter in and still have the same trouble. When I change the pump I disconnected the battery and the engine code so far has not come back.
You revived a 5 year old thread. You should start a new one.

However, your problem is more likely a vacuum leak from the PCV elbow on the back of the throttle body. Did you have low fuel pressure which led you to the conclusion there was a filter issue? If not, the codes will return.

Again, don't reply to this thread, start a new one.

The V6 doesn't have the elbow, the hose goes into the side of the throttle body.

Check your plug wires, you probably have a couple of them reversed at the coil.

2003 ford, stop a minute.
As your first post you don't come into an existing thread with your issue that may not be related.
Start your thread where your issue can be addressed separately.
As Hint, you did not understand the codes you saw and changed parts that are unrelated to the problem.
This is why you still have an issue.
What does 'lean' mean to you?
It's not plug wires and plugs.
I'm sorry to take you to task but I needed to get your attention.
Good luck.

Lean codes are not caused by plugs and wires, but now that it's running bad with stumbles and backfires AFTER a plug and wire change, it sure points at what I suggested. Note the cylinder numbers on the coil pack - I bet there are crossed wires on the driver's side. Otherwise, you may have defective plugs or wires or a cracked coil pack.

Take that Duralast crap and throw it away. Go get yourself a set of MOTORCRAFT spark plugs, MOTORCRAFT plug wires, and a MOTORCRAFT coil pack. Change them all and I'll bet it runs like a top.

Wrong both the 4.2 6 cylinder and 4.6 Romeo v8 have plug wires as well as some 5.4s both of my f150s have plug wires 1998 f150 4x4 4.6 Romeo and my 2001 fx4 5.4

Thanks for reviving a 6 year old thread just to tell me I'm wrong when I'm not.

The 2002 4.6 and 5.4 both had COP, not wires. The OP has a 2002. The 5.4 had COP from day 1 (1997) and the 4.6 went to COP in 2000.

Yes, your 1998 4.6 has wires, but I call BS on your 2001 5.4 having wires. Something has been swapped, it sure didn't come from the factory that way.

GLC is correct.
None of the <<< 5.4 >>> in the F150s had plug wires from 97 on.
All had coil over plugs unless a swap of some sort was done.
The harness is not even the same nor the PCM programming to fire each system.
We had one guy who swore his truck had no coils.
Can you believe that?
Had plugs though with wires on them and did not know enough to follow the wire back to the coils.
Good luck.

I just wasted 45 minutes typing a detailed account of a similar problem I had with my truck,...only to have my wifi crash!!!!! So here's the short rendition. Replace the plenum gaskets and more importantly change the lower plenum bolts that attach the plenum to the intake manifold with the newer improved design that actually seal properly. This was a design flaw from the beginning of production but replacing the bolts should stop air being sucked into the plenum and causing the too lean on bank one and bank two codes. Your truck should idle properly as well. Hope this helps.

99% chance you have the plug wires on the coil wrong.
Good luck.

Pay no attention to the reply.
I must have been thinking of another thread about an OP that replaced plug wires and then has misfire issues and codes.
Thanks for the catch.
