Strange Problem with Power Windows + Locks

Hello Everyone,

I hope someone can give me some ideas, this problem is driving me crazy and preventing me from getting an inspection sticker. I have a 99 F-150 Crew cab with 72K miles.

Anyway, neither my driver side nor passenger side power windows work from either the main driver side switch or passenger side switch. Also, the power locks are messed up. From the driver side the driver side lock does not do anything (although it seems like it is trying to) for the driver side lock, but sometimes I can lock/unlock the passenger side from the driver side.

From the drivers side, when I try to put the driver side window down, I hear a clicking noise in the fuse box under the steering wheel. When I try to put the passenger window down, I hear a different clicking noise coming from the passenger side door. I checked and switch the power window fuses even though none where blown.

I had someone replace the motor on the passenger side. It worked ok for about a week and stopped. I took it back and he said just by fidgeting with the motor he was able to get it working again, but it quit working for me again after only a few days and I was getting sick of taking it to him and leaving it for 2-3 days.

Both power mirrors work fine from the drivers side.

Does anyone have any idea what my problem could be? This has been a great truck other then this problem. I was thinking a wire may have got nicked between the door, but it is almost impossible to remove the rubber grommet to inspect the wires. I think I would have to take the door off to do that.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Jason

what state requires working locks and windows for inspection?

Sounds like you probably need new lock actuators if you can hear them trying to work, but they arent working. If you hit the button and nothing happens you have a wiring issue.

1) be sure to look at the fuse box and that all the proper fuses are in the right places
2) move out f that state
3) if all else fails, look up sscully, he is a ford electrical wizard, he can be a bit rigid when asking questions, but he knows his stuff.
and 4) move out of that state!

Thanks folks. I live in Louisiana. I guess I should have got a 2nd opinion on the inspection, but I would like to get the windows working regardless. I am sick of not being able to roll them down on a nice day or when I go through the drive thru. I took the driver's window motor out and it started working. Put it back and it continue to work. I think there must be a loose connection where the motor plugs in. I will try to secure it with electrical tape and hope that fixes it. I think I just have a string of bad luck and everything went out around the same time. I am going to look into the lock actuators now. Thanks for the suggestions.
